The Stonemasters: California Climbers in the Seventies, chronicles the meteoric rise of a small band of Southern Californians who, beginning in the early 1970s, radically altered the course of world rock climbing, and virtually invented the gonzo culture of modern adventure sports. With over one hundred thirty historical photos, along with the landmark essays and stories of John Long (and others), The Stonemasters bring to life the legendary personalities, the victories and the tragedies that set the adventure revolution in motion.

Great images; great text; high-end stock, print & binding. As an employee at a commercial offset printer I appreciate both the content quality & material . mfg quality. KICK ASS JOB, guys!!!Only one neg -- on page 58, "Werner" is spelled "WArner". Sorry to have to nitpick; thought maybe you'd wanna know for future editions. I'd be happy to give any future endeavors the "once-over"!!Again, AWESOME book.....thanks for the hard work! Publisher: Good catch on Werner! We'll make the correction on the next printing. Thanks for the review!

I just finished reading the manuscript - I couldn't put it down. I especially enjoyed "The Bird's Boys", "I Didn't Dare Fall", "The Only Blasphemy", "Rats", "Downpour on El Cap",and "Paul". All of the stories were great though -some were scary, some were funny, some were really touching. This will be a really wonderful book.

I was privileged to preview a mocked up copy Mike and Dean brought to Granite Frontiers. I was blown away. If you've followed the antics and accomplishments of the Stonemasters, all the the stuff you'll expect to see is there. But the wonderful surprise is a huge quantity of rarely, if ever, seen images that will make you laugh, cry and dream. And I cannot wait to read the essays. Thank you for making this happen. Looks awesome as it takes me back to my era when I started climbing. Watching the video, the beginnings and leading to the Valley, is just mind blowing. How quick time flies when your having fun. It's amazing what has been accomplished since climbing started and where we are today. From several days on El Cap to a little over two hours to reach the top.Finding backwoods area and boulders to practice then onto huge climbing gyms, garage walls, and parks to improve and tweak our abilities to climb harder routes more efficiently. The hardest climbable routes back back then were 5.12 now today it's 5.14 and probably higher soon.Climbing as seen in the book shows us that we constantly want to improve our contact with the outdoors Todd Wheeler
